  • So we went to the "water park".  It was really just a big pool with a neat little platform with steps and slides coming off of it in the middle of the pool.  It was fun, though, but I got sunburned.  Oh well.  Just wanted to give a report on the "water park"........Carrie

  • Hello!  Today Walter and my dad are going to a men's breakfast with some church people, and then they're going to come pick me up, and we're going to the water park (Pirates Cove)!  Also today, Amy has CIT (Counselor in Training) training.  So she's going to be a counselor for camp this summer.  Actually, I think the camp's like next week or something.  And then Walter and my camp (Lakeside) is starting the 23rd.  So that's in two weeks.

Last night we played Settlers of Catan and my dad won.  I better go now......Carrie

  • Hey!  Today I had my last tennis lesson.  I hope I can practice sometimes with my dad and maybe Amy.

Tomorrow I'm going to a water park with Walter and my dad.  It's the grand opening so hopefully it won't be too crowded.  It's called Pirates Cove.  I wonder what it'll have at it.

Tonight we had crepes for dinner!  They were really good.  My mom got lots of fruit including bananas, kiwis, strawberries, blueberries, and (the best!) raspberries.  The raspberries were SO good!

I think we're going to play a game now, so I better go...........I'll write again soon!  Carrie

  • Hello!  Today I would normally have piano lesson, but it's "composition camp" week, so I have it on different days of the week during the month.  I have to bring a poem (this is for composition camp - it's not really a camp, though) and write a song to it.  Then I can keep the words or I don't have to.  (My lesson's tomorrow.)

On Monday, June 9th, 2008, I finished math!!  So now I've finished Saxon Math forever.  Woohoo!!  Now on to finishing Language Arts.  Yay! - Not.

It's been really hot out lately, so I really want to go to the pool.  We might (hopefully) go to the pool Saturday or next week.  Well, we might not, but I really want to.

I better go now.  I'll update later!  Carrie

  • Fort Ward Civil War Reenactment

Today we went to a Civil War Reenactment at Fort Ward.  We saw shooting demonstrations, the Zouaves doing some bayonet drills, and Victorian dancing (in the last dance, Amy, my dad, and I danced with them because for the last dance at all their shows, they get volunteers).  There was also a place that had a girl (12-year-old) reenactor showing other kids games that kids played in Civil War times, a place with a lady reenactor showing what laundresses did in Civil War times, a reenactor showing what Union soldiers had in their bags (tin plate, fork, knife, "housewife" (a sewing kit), pocket knife, and other personal items), and a medical tent place.  There were also reenactor people walking around in Civil War time clothes.  Anyway, here are the videos of the shooting demonstrations, the Zouaves doing some bayonet drills, and Victorian dancing:

Shooting demonstration and how to load (if it's getting boring, fast-foward to the end to see the actual shooting):

Here's the Zouaves doing bayonet drills:

Here's the Victorian dancing (it's the best one):

So yeah, that's pretty much what we did.  I hope you had fun watching the videos.  I better go.  Carrie

  • Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Yesterday night (5:15 pm-7:45 pm) we went to see Prince Caspian.  It was pretty good.  Some of it I didn't get, but for the most part it was really good.  I don't really remember the book since I read it about four years ago, so I couldn't really tell if it was like the book or not, but Amy said it was pretty much the same except they added some stuff that wasn't there.  I think the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was better, though.  Of course, I liked the book (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) better, too.  I hope they make the Voyage of the Dawn Treader next.  That would be awesome.  Well, I better go.  I'll write later! Carrie

  • Hello!  On Friday night I went to my friend, Anna's, sleepover birthday party.  It was really fun!  We played lots of games including (I don't know the exact names, but these names that I make up sort of describe them.) Ha*, Fishing**, Robber Candy Game***, and Fashion Design Game****.

*Rules: Everyone gets in a big circle.  One person starts, saying a funny word, and everyone has to go around the circle without smiling or laughing.  If they smile or laugh, they're out.  Then, when that circle's finished, you start by saying a different funny word.  You keep playing until only one person's left.

**Rules: There are teams of two.  It doesn't matter how many teams there are, but the more, the more fun it is.  One of the team members is called the fish, and the other the fisherman.  The fish line up in a row across from the fishermen.  They're facing each other, but the fish is blindfolded.  (They're sitting down.)  The fisherman is holding a donut tied with string (hanging down) from a stick.  When someone who's not playing says "Go!", the fishermen start calling "Here, fishy, fishy!  Here fishy, fishy!", and the fish have to find their fishermen.  If they find someone else's fisherman, they're out.  When they find their fisherman, they have to eat the donut.  Whoever finishes their donut first, wins!  That game's fun, but messy.

***Rules: All people get in a big circle.  There are a few buckets (depending on how many people are there, but what we did was have about four people per bucket), each having a few dice (two to four dice per bucket).  The object is to get doubles.  There is a big pile of candy in the middle.  When you get doubles, you get to pick a candy from the middle, and the people watching have to remember what you and other people got.  When the candy runs out, you can pick somebody else's candy.  But here's the trick; you have to remember exactly what they got.  For example, if the candy's out, and Anna thought she remembered that I got a Reeses, she could, when she got doubles, say, "Carrie, give me your Reeses.".  If I had the Reeses, I had to give it to her, but if she got it wrong, and I didn't have a Reeses, then I could pick one of her candies, even if I didn't remember what she got.  She had to let me choose.  That game was really fun, too.

****Rules: There are at least two teams.  Each team has one model, and the other people are fashion designers.  Each team has two roles of toilet paper and one role of crate paper.  They have five minutes to design, make, and put their outfit on the model.  Then everyone votes for who has the most creative, and the best all-around design.

We had pizza for dinner, and yogurt with granola and fruit on it for breakfast.  Also, for dinner dessert, we had dot icecream.  It was so good!  She liked her presents, so it went well.  Well, I better go.  Carrie

P.S. Today we're going to see Prince Caspian!!!

  • Saturday Spring Festival

Our church has a spring festival every year; this was the third annual festival.  About the festival, I have some good news and some bad news.  I'll say the bad news first.  I lost the pictures!  Argggg!  I think what happened was that I put all my pictures of other stuff on the computer like the day before the festival, and then I didn't delete them off (which I normally do after I'm sure they're on the computer).  The next day, at the festival, I took pictures.  Later, I forgot that it was the day before that I put pictures on the computer, so I thought all the pictures were on the computer, including the spring festival ones, so I deleted all the pictures off my camera without looking at them.  So yeah........That was a really dumb mistake.

But, the good news is that the festival went well; it was a really nice day, and the people that came had fun, I think.  At least the people I asked said they had fun.  My friend Rachel and I ran the bowling.  For the bowling, there were blow-up pins (six) and a big blow-up ball.  The bowling was tiring after a while, and the wind didn't help, but it was fun.

Other activities/games included a mini golf, not really a "course", but I don't know what else to call it (it was a little wooden board with a cut-in-half pipe/tube (so that it was like a (straight) track) slanting slightly upward, with a hole at the top, and no end, so it was pretty hard, but I got one hole); an obstacle course with different obstacles including a hay stack, tube (to crawl through), jump rope, hop scotch, and a cart to push; a beanbag toss; remote control car race; ring toss; basketball hoop; frisbee; a short, thin rope with golf balls tied to the end that the kids had to through at hurdles, and try to get the ropes with golf balls tied to the ends twisted around the hurdles; and a fishing thing (it was a wading pool with magnetic fish that the kids had to get out with a magnetic fishing pole).  All those games that I just mentioned got a stamp; the kids get a card with six stamp sections and every time they go to one of those games, the workers at each station stamp in one of the spots.  Once the kids get all six stamp sections stamped in, they go to a place to get a prize; then they can get a new card.

Some of the activities/games didn't get stamps.  Those activities were spin art, beads, coloring, face paint, and a moon bounce.  There was also a gospel tent, where they gave out Bibles, and told about the church (Fellowship Baptist Church).  I guess that's it.  Sorry I messed up the pictures!  We always have next year!

  • One piece (the best) from Amy's concert this afternoon - the last for the year.  Pirates of the Caribbean!  She is principal viola.  It was really good.  Good night!
